What is a cleanroom pass-through?
A
cleanroom pass-through (also called a pass-thru chamber or transfer window) is an enclosure built into the wall of a cleanroom that allows materials, equipment, and supplies to be transferred in and out of the cleanroom without requiring personnel to enter or exit — minimizing the introduction of contaminants. Pass-throughs typically have interlocked doors on both sides so only one door can be open at a time, maintaining cleanroom pressure integrity during transfers.
What types of pass-throughs does Clean Air Products offer?
Clean Air Products offers a range of
pass-through products including standard cleanroom pass-through windows/chambers,
fire-rated pass-throughs, and pass-thru cabinets for compounding pharmacies (ISO Class 5). Pass-throughs are available in various sizes and configurations to meet the transfer requirements of your application. Contact our team for specifications and custom sizing options.
What is a fire-rated pass-through and when is it required?
A
fire-rated pass-through is a pass-through chamber that has been tested and certified to maintain a fire rating — meaning it will resist the spread of fire and smoke through the cleanroom wall for a specified period of time. Fire-rated pass-throughs are required when the cleanroom wall they penetrate has a fire-resistance rating (as specified by building codes and fire safety regulations). Clean Air Products supplies fire-rated pass-through products — see our Fire Rated Pass-Thrus page for product information and specifications.
Can pass-throughs be used with active HEPA filtration?
Yes. Pass-through chambers can be equipped with
HEPA filtration and airflow to purge particles from materials being transferred — providing an additional layer of contamination control. These are sometimes called active pass-throughs or air-purging pass-throughs. They are particularly useful in
pharmaceutical compounding,
life sciences, and
medical device applications where contamination of transferred materials is a critical concern.
